Review of WS-858 Wireless Microphone

WS-858 Wireless MicrophoneMy father loves to sing, so I got him a pair of these WS-858 Wireless Headphones for Christmas this year.

How to Use

After charging the wireless microphone with the micro-USB cable provided,

  1. Switch on the wireless microphone by pressing the on/off button near the head for a few seconds. You will hear a loud voice that says “the bluetooth device is ready to pair”.
  2. Switch on bluetooth on your handphone or smart television and search for WS-858. Click on WS-858 in your list of devices and you will hear a loud voice saying “the bluetooth device is connected successfully”.
  3. You can now use the microphone to sing songs.

If you are contemplating buying the WS-858 Wireless Microphone as a gift or personal use, please note the following pros and cons before buying.

  • The WS-858 Wireless Microphone comes in four pretty colors – pink, black, gold and blue. The pretty colors makes the wireless microphones a great gift.
  • It’s wireless so there are no cables that can potentially trip people.
  • You can recharge the microphone using micro-USD cable so there is no need to buy batteries.
  • The microphone connects easily to handphone or television.

  • There is no way to lower the volume of the voice after switching on the microphone and upon successfully connecting to bluetooth device .
  • Due to proximity of microphone  and speaker, feedback loop often causes high-pitched squeal especially when singing high-pitch notes.

Product Review: Ecobar Shampoo and Conditioner Bar

I have been using Asatee Rice Milk Soap with Collagen from Thai Supermarket for many months now. Not only does it work better than bottled liquid body wash, but it’s more environmentally-friendly too. I wanted to find shampoo and conditioner in bar form and that’s when I found Ecobar. Ecobar promises that all of their products are made from natural ingredients. There are no sulfates, parable and silicons. All products are vegan, 100% biodegradable and uses no plastic packaging.

Ecobar Shampoo and Conditioner Bar
That sounds like exactly what I am looking for so I got myself a Heal + Detox Shampoo Bar and Repair and Nourish Conditioner Bar.

I like that the bars come in cardboard boxes with no plastic wrapping.

Ecobar Heal + Detox Shampoo Bar

Heal + Detox Shampoo Bar is greyish-black in color. It contains tea tree, neem, dead sea salt and charcoal (which explains the black color). You can smell a hint of tea tree. It does not foam that much but it does clean the hair quite well. The only problem is it takes a bit of time to slowly soften the shampoo. I suggest keeping it in an airtight container after use so that the vapor will help to soften it for the next use.

Ecobar Repair and Nourish Conditioner Bar

Repair and Nourish Conditioner Bar contains coconut, sunflower and almond which explains its orangey color. It is a lightweight conditioner that does not build up excessive oils in my hair. My hair feels light after washing, but also a little dry. It is quite hard and takes a while to slowly rub it onto the ends of the hair.

I started using both bars at the same time, the shampoo bar is almost used up while the conditioner bar is not even half gone.

All in all, Ecobar shampoo and conditioner bars are great alternatives to the liquid versions. By using bar shampoo and conditioner, you are not only saving the earth but also treating your body better as they don’t contain harsh chemicals.

You can buy Ecobar shampoo and conditioner bars here.

Product Review: Davines Shampoo and Conditioner

It never occurred to me that the pH of the shampoo I use can greatly impact my hair, until I read this article. The article says:

Alkaline pH may increase the negative electrical charge of the hair fiber surface and, therefore, increase friction between the fibers. This may lead to cuticle damage and fiber breakage. It is a reality and not a myth that lower pH of shampoos may cause less frizzing for generating less negative static electricity on the fiber surface. Interestingly, only 38% of the popular brand shampoos against 75% of the salons shampoos presented a pH ≤ 5.0.

Maybe this is the reason I have dry hair that tangles easily? I decided to test this theory out. I searched online for low pH shampoo and Davines shampoo and conditioner is supposed to have the lowest pH, so I got myself a set to try.

Davines Shampoo and Conditioner

Davines shampoos and conditioners all have very cute names. The shampoo I bought is called Nounou and the conditioner is called Momo.

The shampoo contains tomato extract while the conditioner contains melon extract, but I couldn’t smell either.

This is shampoo and conditioner to nourish  highly processed and brittle hair. It is thicker than any other shampoo and conditioner I have used. The shampoo has a honey-consistency while the conditioner is thick like jam (it reminds me of kaya with greenish color).

I have to say, it is really good. My hair feels much smoother and tangles much less after I started using this shampoo and conditioner.

The only downside is the price, it is probably the most expensive shampoo and conditioner I have used so far. 250ml of the Davines shampoo and conditioner costs around S$33 each and that only lasts at most 2 months.

Besides Nounou and Momo, there are many other shampoos and conditioners for different types of hair. You can check them out here

Product Review: Wowo Pure Ginger Shampoo and Hair Mask

Wowo Pure Ginger Shampoo and Hair Mask 1

Sometime back in 2018, Wowo Pure Ginger Shampoo suddenly became very popular in Singapore.

Many instagramers, even some of my own friends and colleagues, were all raving about how good this shampoo is.

According to information I have gathered online, Wowo Pure Ginger Shampoo is supposed to have the following benefits:

  • Improve scalp blood circulation
  • Anti-dandraff
  • Prevent hair loss and hair breakage
  • Stimulate hair follicle cells to promote hair growth
  • Provide oil control to inhibit bacterial growth

A few weeks ago, I saw that Wowo Pure Ginger Shampoo was having a promotion on Qoo10. Since all the other shampoo has not helped me tame my hair, I thought I will give this “miracle” shampoo a try.

Purchase of Wowo Pure Ginger Shampoo gets me a free bottle of Hair Mask. So all in all, I paid S$12.90 for Wowo Pure Ginger Shampoo 300ml and Hair Mask 150ml.

Delivery was quick, I got the products 2 days later.

Wowo Pure Ginger Shampoo and Hair Mask 2

The shampoo and hair mask are much thicker than other hair products. It’s more of a thick paste than a gel.

My worry that my hair will smell of ginger after washing was unfound.

I like that the shampoo gives my hair a very clean feeling after washing, but it also dries out my hair. I think it is more suitable for oily hair.

The hair mask is a little too thick for my liking. It’s hard work trying to work that paste-like hair mask into my already tangled hair.

All in all, I won’t really recommend Wowo Pure Ginger Shampoo and Hair Mask for those like who with dry and tangled hair.

10 Things to Buy at Don Don Donki

When DonDon Donki opened its first outlet at Orchard Central in December 2017, everyone was talking about this new Japanese supermarket. I couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about, what’s so special about a Japanese supermarket?

I was at Orchard Central one day and I had some time to kill before my next appointment, so I decided to check out Don Don Donki. I wanted to see for myself why everyone was so crazy about Don Don Donki.

Maybe my feelings about Don Don Donki was different after my trip to Japan or maybe Don Don Donki is just plain awesome. No matter what is the reason, I am totally a Don Don Donki fan now.

Don Don Donki has all the Japanese products you could ever want, all in one place. The Don Don Donki at basement 1 of Orchard Central sells mainly lifestyle products, while basement 2 sells food products. I have nicknamed Don Don Donki “Japan Wonderland”.

Don Don Donki sells thousands of items and I think these 10 items are especially worth buying:

1. Bentos and Grilled Foods

Don Don Donki - Cooked Chicken

Don Don Donki - Cooked Seafood

If you have ever been to supermarkets in Japan, you know that to the Japanese supermarkets are not just places to buy groceries. Don Don Donki, like all Japanese supermarkets, offers ready-to-eat bento sets. You can find unagi bento, gyoza bento, karaage bento among many others. The bentos are sold at discounted prices nearing the closing time. When I visited one evening, I saw many people piling up on the discounted bento sets, probably to stock up at home.

2. Japanese Sake and Whiskeys

Don Don Donki - Japanese Sake 2

Don Don Donki - Yamazaki Single Malt Whiskey

Don Don Donki has an extensive collection of Japanese sake. There is Sake Tokusen Soyoutikubai 720ml ($30), Sake Hakuturu 720ml ($32) and Sake Hakkaizan 720ml ($42) to name a few. Don Don Donki - Japanese Curry

Japanese curry has reached a cult-like status in Japan. There are people who eat Japanese curry everyday and there are rows and rows of shelves in Japanese supermarket dedicated solely to Japanese curry. You can find the same wide variety in Don Don Donki. You won’t be able to find most of these Japanese curries in other supermarkets in Singapore.

6. Face Masks

You have probably heard of those ridiculously-expensive fruits in Japan? The fruits sold in Don Don Donki may be a little pricier than those in NTUC or Giant, but the fruits are so sweet and juicy, you won’t mind spending that extra money. The Go-Giver: A Little Story About A Powerful Business Idea by Bob Burg

My colleague’s husband told my colleague, “You have to read this book, “The Go-Giver”, it is the best book ever. You have to read it!”.

I was intrigued about what this The Go-Giver is talking about, so I got a copy for myself.

The Go-Giver is a short story that illustrates The Five Laws of Strato-Spheric Success:

The Law of Value: Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.

The Law of Compensation: Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.

The Law of Influence: Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.

The Law of Authenticity: The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.

The Law of Receptivity: The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.

If you think about it, these are actually all very basic principles. The Go-Giver puts it in a story format that makes it easier for people to understand.

Now I just have to figure out how to apple these laws into my own life to get strato-pheric success in my life.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

I think I have read this classic when I was young but I couldn’t quite understand what it was talking about. The fact that Old English tend to go in circles talking about one thing doesn’t help either.

Men and women during those times are so boring. The only thing on their mind seems to find a good husband/wife to increase their fortunes. That seems to be their only source of entertainment.

But the theme of the book is still relevant in today’s society. We often perceive others based on our own prejudice and pride.

DA Luggage Repair – Reliable Luggage Repair for Any Brand

With the low cost of production in China, luggages are becoming more and more affordable. Many travel shops run luggage promotions a few times a year.

But what happens if you want to repair your luggage due to sentimental value or simply because you want to be more eco-friendly?

I bought this luggage when I was in Taiwan. I loved the color and the fact that it is the first luggage I bought with my own hard-earned money.

When my luggage broke down, I decided that I shall have my luggage repaired instead of buying a new luggage.

I googled “luggage repair” and made enquirers with a few shops but most of them only accept branded luggages. No one wants to take in a brandless luggage like mine, until I found DA Luggage Repair. I messaged them with a picture of my luggage and the problem. The response was quick and they said they can fix it for me. Yes!

I arranged a date and time for my luggage to be picked-up (included in the price). A guy came, I paid the $25 deposit and a receipt was issued.

On the same day, I received a message from DA Luggage Repair saying that they have received my luggage. They say that the damage is internal so they will need to customize a new handle to fit in. They quoted me $75 for the whole repair and I agreed.

About a week later, I received a message from DA Luggage Repair that my luggage is ready for collection. Roadbull handles the deliveries for DA Luggage Repair. We fixed a date, my luggage was delivered on time and I paid the remaining $50.

The delivered luggage is wrapped in plastic wrap to prevent any damage to the luggage during the delivery process. How thoughtful.

I am very happy with DA Luggage Repair’s service and I highly-recommend them. They are upfront about their fees, there are no hidden charges and they fix any luggage, branded or not.

DA Luggage Repair even offers 3 month warranty on the repair part. The warranty is effective from the date of delivery back to you. The warranty covers both manufacturing defects and damage from normal wear and tear.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Series

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Range

Somewhere around the middle of 2017, as I looked at my dull and dry skin, I realised that although I am only 30 years old, my face looks like that of a 40-year-old.

I made a promise to myself: I am going to take better care of my skin.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to skincare, it is a matter of trial-and-error. Still, it gets really confusing when there are too many choices.

I turned for guidance from celebrities and fashion bloggers, because they are supposed to be the experts, right? I tried the highly-acclaimed SK-II Facial Gentle Cleanser, SK-II Facial Clear Lotion and SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, but it is too damn expensive for long-term use for salaried workers like me.

I remember I really liked the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mousse Cleanser when I used it a few years back, so I decided to try out the whole works. I got the whole works: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mousse Cleanser, Neurogena Hydro Boost Clear Lotion, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel,   Neutrogena Hydro Boost 3D Sleeping Mask and Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mask.

Let me go through them one by one and give you my two-cents’ worth.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleansing Mousse

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleansing Mousse (Product)

Step 1: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mousse Cleanser

The cleanser comes out in foam form which means that I don’t have to lather up anymore. My face feel hydrated and clean after washing without that overstretched feeling that some cleansers gives me.  This is still one of my favorite cleansers.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Clear Lotion

Step 2: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Clear Lotion

I like that this toner does not contain alcohol, so it does not dry out my skin. It does give me the occasional tingling sensation when I apply it on my skin, but that only happens when my skin is dry.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Treatment Lotion

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Treatment Lotion (Product)

Step 3: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Treatment Lotion Pre-Essence

This is the toner and it is alcohol-free so it does not dry up my skin. Infused with hyaluronic acid, this toner hydrates my skin while cleansing off the impurities on my face, leaving my skin refreshed and supple.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel (Inside)

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel (Product)

Step 4: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

This is the daytime moisturizer. It contains an innovative progressive release system, which draws moisture from the air and release it into the air over time to combat dryness. It also contains hyaluronic acid for extra hydration and moisture retention. It claims to be able to moisturize the skin for up to 12 hours, but I personally find that it is good for about 4-6 hours in air-conditioned places. It does not clog the pores and a little bit goes a long way. Just a ten-cent amount is enough to cover the whole face.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost 3D Sleeping Mask

Neutrogena Hydro Boost 3D Sleeping Mask (Inside)

Neutrogena Hydro Boost 3D Sleeping Mask (Product)

Step 5: Neutrogena Hydro Boost 3D Sleeping Mask

This is the nighttime moisturing gel. It contains Neutrogena’s Moisture Sensor Complex and hyaluronic acid which replenishes moisture when you need it and repairs skin barrier to lock the moisture in. It also contains antioxidant

lemon peel formula helps to repair the skin’s barrier against harsh environment aggressors. I don’t like that it contains fragrance and that it is too thick, but it does leave my skin supple and hydrated in the morning. A little bit goes a long way. Just a ten-cent amount is enough for the whole face.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mask

Step 6: Neutrogna Hydro Boost Intensive Hydrating Mask

It does exactly as what it says, it intensively hydrates the skin. It is a little expensive but the hydration you get makes it all worthwhile.

The Neutrogena Hydro Boost will always be one of my favourite facial product range to use, especially the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Mousse Cleanser. It is my fall-back facial cleanser that is now readily available at all Watsons and Guardian pharmacies.

What do you think about the Neutrogena Hydro Boost series? Tell me in the comments!
